Brings expertise in new technologies and intercollegiate talent to enhance CMRC programs

Chicago, IL – The Chicago Match Race Center (CMRC) is pleased to announce that Tod Reynolds has been appointed Program Director of CMRC, starting immediately and in time for the planning phases of the upcoming 2011 season.

Reynolds originally grew up sailing on Barnaget Bay in NJ, and has been an active match race sailor on Taylor Canfieldʼs successful team during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Prior to this he had been active in the highly competitive Intercollegiate sailing scene as a team captain at Northwestern University and commodore of the Midwest district. In this role he was influential in persuading the change in format to match race sailing at the US National Championship, which debuted last fall at the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

Besides continuing to grow match racing in the US by hosting the highest-level regattas and training programs, an important goal for Reynolds this season is to promote CMRC as an excellent value for sponsors of ʻstadium sailingʼ at the match race events held on the Chicago lakefront. He also plans to develop programs for corporate sailing and hospitality opportunities in the Chicago area.

"In only two years CMRC has become a premier destination for match race sailing," says Reynolds. "We intend to carry on and expand this mission this year to include more events, like our new Grade 1 at the end of September, and make our existing events better, like offering prize money for our Chicago Match Cup in August." This three-day Grade 2 event is the start of the North American GRAND SLAM series.

Reynolds also plans to make more use of social media tools and videos to promote activities at CMRC, and to develop more features to attract sponsor interest in both the center and in events.

"I feel confident that with the ideal high-visibility location CMRC has on the lakefront, and the innovative programs we are planning to develop, that we will go far this season to create the ʻstadium sailingʼ environment that will be attractive to sponsors," said Reynolds.

Sponsors of the CMRC include Eurex, CME Group, NewEdge, City Inns and Line Honors.

About CMRC: The Chicago Match Race Center was founded to promote and grow the sport of match race sailing. Besides being used in the Americaʼs Cup, match race sailing has recently also been adapted as a Womenʼs discipline in the 2012 Olympic Games. As part of its mission to provide the highest-level match racing training facility for professional and amateur sailors in the US, CMRC retains a full fleet of TOM 28 class boats and all umpire and support boats needed to run international-caliber regattas. Additionally, CMRC has procured a fleet of Elliott 6M class boats, the type that will be used in the Games, and will use them to train and race teams with Olympic aspirations.
